Viscount Legend One and MainStage: MIDI Bank Select – MSB and LSB settings

Viscount Legend One Mainstage

Having just taken possession of a Viscount Legend One, I’ve started integrating it into my MainStage gigging rig. Part of doing that is working out how to send patch change messages to the Legend One from MainStage.

I’m pleased to report that Viscount have taken one of the simpler approaches to this. The Legend One has 99 banks, each containing four programs, so 396 programs (or presets as I tend to think of them). To send MSB and LSB commands to the Legend One from Mainstage, you:

  1. click on the MIDI output tab in the Strip Inspector,
  2. check the boxes for Send Program Change and Send Bank Select
  3. The Bank Select MSB is 000, and then the Bank Select LSB (the second box) starts at 000 (more on that below)
  4. The Program Change number is the specific program. As mentioned, the Legend One has 99 banks of 4 programs, so the 19 I’ve selected in the pic below is the 19th program, which is Bank 5 – Program 3

Because Program Changes are in multiples of 128, this means the first 32 banks of the Legend One are accessed via MSB 000, LSB 000. Then for the next 32 banks the MSB remains at 000 but the LSB now needs to be 001:

For the remaining banks it’s MSB 000 and LSB 003 and 004.

That’s it! Hope that’s helpful and let us know if you have any queries.
