Over the weekend I had the privilege of checking out The Waterboys for the first time. I’ve been a fan for thirty plus years, and bought tickets without hesitation. I then reached out to ‘Brother Paul’ Brown, who we’ve had on the show before . Being the generous human being he is, he immediately agreed to do a rig tour, and also offered to involve his bandmate ‘Famous James’ Hallawell, so we suddenly had a two-in-one rig tour.
As you know, there aren’t that many bands out there with two keyboard players in the rock genre. The E-Street Band and Dire Straits are two obvious ones, and it’s a skill making it work. Not only do Brother Paul and Famous James make it work, they seem to have perfected it. They beautifully complemented each other throughout the show, and both off-stage and on-stage they have huge regard for each other.
